No worries, great question.

One way is as you suggested, but the easier way is that the original is cryptographically signed by the wallet of the original author. So it’s like the same as a real-life signature, except that it’s signed cryptographically, so it’s easy to validate authenticity.

This is another reason why NFTs are so hot. They are easy to prove who is the original artist.
